Go Green

Did you know...

  • 40% of the world’s energy is consumed by buildings.

  • As much as 1/3 of the cooling required in a building can be attributed to solar heat gain.

  • Conventional window films can reduce solar heat gain by as much as 83%.

Our planet has a fixed amount of natural resources available, and as its inhabitants, it is our responsibility to conserve it. As a company we support the green initiative. We are proud to provide products to the building industry that assist current and future energy conservation efforts.

"In the aftermath of Copenhagen, business leaders have an important role to play in setting the climate change agenda." Richard Evans, President of PepsiCo UK.
Will your business respond positively to the challenges and opportunities of climate change?

Whether you own a building or a home we can help you to reduce your energy consumption. Using Madico's SafetyShield® Combined Window Film, will result is a smaller carbon footprint, blast mitigation and money saved, a perfect combination.

Madico Inc are proud to announce EFilm

As we are all aware, energy saving is becoming critically important and a global concern. Commercial buildings and private homes everywhere are looking for ways to conserve energy, reduce their carbon footprint, and lower utility costs. For many years, Madico's solar control window film has been an excellent way to save energy and offers a considerably better payback time as compared to replacement glass. With the introduction of a new computer program EFilm; Madico can now accurately calculate what the return-on-investment will be for buildings considering installing our film.

EFilm is a software package that has been designed to analyze a building's energy use with multiple film choices and without film. It has been developed specifically for the window film industry, and is capable of producing very detailed and accurate building models. The program constructs a 3-D model and uses custom window and film options, and then runs a simulation to estimate the annual savings and the payback on the various film choices. EFilm is based on the Energy Plus 4.0 simulation engine, a program developed by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), which is considered the most accurate and complete energy analysis software available today. Used in conjunction with OPTICS5 and WINDOW5, programs also developed by DOE funded research facility Lawrence Berkley National Labs (LBNL), Madico has the ability to model all of our films on any commercially available glass. LBNL publishes the performance specifications of thousands of commercially available fenestration products in the International Glazing Database (IGDB), which is used in Optics and WINDOW. The IGDB contains complete spectral data of all the products offered by major glass manufacturers, as well as all of Madico's window films. With all of these tools, we can model exactly the type of glass in a building and apply any Madico window film for the most accurate and realistic fenestration option.

The construction process of the building has a similar level of customization. We have the capability to select the building type, age, size, shape and orientation, and geographical location. We have weather data for cities all over the world, allowing us to apply realistic external loads on a building. We can customize the HVAC systems, lighting, occupancy, building constructions, infiltrations, hot water usage, emission levels, and even add daylighting controls. We can be as specific as the customer would like, and for those who don't have all this information available or would just like a quick estimate, we can use default constructions and settings per ASHRAE 90.1.

The results of EFilm are very extensive and go far beyond providing a simple payback on investment. We can study electric and gas consumption and cost over any given time period, from a single day up to a whole year, and look at the breakdown of consumption by each system. We can provide graphs showing monthly reduction in CO2 and NOx emissions, and even glare reduction and thermal comfort improvements. In essence, EFilm shows how the entire building and all of its systems will respond to window film. It is a very powerful program that brings Madico to a new level of professionalism and engineering, while demonstrating the full capabilities of Madico window film.
